We've made Soundtrack by Elizabeth Smith in two wonderfully wooly yarns, Brooklyn Tweed Shelter and Noro Ito, and you are going to want to wear it on repeat all season long!
We love Elizabeth Smith's simple design aesthetic. Her pieces always offer so much potential for customization. With Soundtrack, she adds colorblocking and slipped stitches to a minimal shape creating a garment that's fun to knit and easy to wear!
Her original design uses 2 colors that swap foreground and background for the top and bottom halves of the sweater. While we also used 2 different colors of Shelter for the top and bottom, we decided to add a third yarn: Noro's Ito.
Ito is a self-striping yarn with color repeats that just so happen to work beautifully with this design- each stripe looks like a different color!
Noro's palette is always incredible and each skein contains hues both vibrant and deep. Seeing how each new color will look with the last is huge part of the fun of this yarn and definitely keeps you moving forward and wanting to knit one more row!
Since most of this sweater is knit with Shelter, you'll be wearing a light, warm garment that is ideal for layering. Wear this over a long sleeved tee or under a jacket as it gets cooler! Make it a little more cropped to wear with high waisted pants or skirts and dresses. Add length for a tunic to wear with leggings!
Soundtrack is knit in the round from the bottom up. When you divide for the sleeves, you switch to the second color and knit the front and back separately. Then, you join the shoulders with a three needle bind-off. You finish by knitting the neck and sleeve edgings.
Any length adjustments can be made in the bottom section. Please make sure you have extra yarn if you're making it longer!
Since all Ito colorways are fabulous, it's impossible to go wrong in the color selection process! We think it makes sense to let the Ito shine, so choosing a more neutral background in Shelter will let the Ito do its thing!
We made ours in Shelter in cast iron + sweatshirt with Ito in itako.
