Summer is upon us and I just finished knitting the perfect warm weather accessory: the Maida Wrap! Not only is this the cherry on top of your summer ensembles, it's also the ideal companion to your full calendar of parties, picnics and get-aways. Maida ticks all the boxes: beautiful, simple, portable and foolproof!
Maida is knit with Shibui's stunning silk merino blend, Lunar. This yarn feels fantastic! I am a true blue Shibui fan, and this was my first time knitting with Lunar. The silk gives it a slight shimmer and adds incredible softness and drape to the fabric while staying light as feather.
We knit Maida with a single strand of Lunar on a US 7 needle. Knitting garter stitch with a laceweight yarn on a larger needle creates soft, cushy fabric. It can open up into a big cozy wrap or compress down into a scarf!
Wear this to keep warm at a summer wedding or with a jean jacket if you're heading up to the Poconos. Really though, you're going to want to wear this wrap year-round. Luckily, it looks good with everything!
Sometimes garter stitch can have an uneven edge, so we've added a fun twist to this simple beauty. At the end of each row, you'll work a slip stitch i-cord. This adds interest to the knitting and creates a tidy, minimal edging.
Maida is very much suitable for novice knitters; you just need to know how to cast on, knit, increase and cast off. Really, that's it!
Lunar comes in a lovely range of brights and neutrals. Looking for a pop of color? Try Poppy, Pollen or Imperial. Want something to blend with the rest of your wardrobe? Go with Ash, Graphite or Tar.
To make Maida, you'll need:
Since we no longer carry Shibui Lunar, we recommend using 4 skeins of Sandnes Garn Alpakka Silke.
US7 32-inch circular needle
