Bonnie just finished knitting the most beautiful Hawserlaid shawlette in everyone's new favorite yarn: Tern from Quince & Co.!
We can't get enough of this yarn + pattern combo. Tern creates a fantastic texture with this pattern's fun take on cable-like rib pattern (spoiler alert: you're not actually cabling; more on that below!).
Hawserlaid, from designer Tess Young, is knit from tip to tip with a texture that looks cable-like but without any of the cabling - it's actually a simple, 3x3 twisted rib stitch!
There are different sections to the shawl that you have to pay attention to as you work the shaping with increases and decreases, but for the most part the knitting flows along rhythmically!
Fun fact: Hawserlaid is so named because "laid" is a traditional term for the twist in a rope and "hawser" refers to three strands, meaning a hawser-laid rope is a three-strand twisted rope - which the texture of this shawl resembles!
This shawl strikes a unique balance of having refined look but in a "wear with everything, every day" kind of way.
The silk content of Tern elevates this neck warmer with elegance and polish. It's the perfect accent for your wardrobe and just a little dressy!
The shawl's finished wingspan is 74½" wingspan and it's 13" deep at center.
You'll need:
- 3 skeins of Quince & Co. Tern (shown in Prout's Neck)
- US 4 24" circular needle
- Hawserlaid pattern
