In Japan, there's a dessert called Kakigori that tops refreshing shaved ice with vibrantly colored, flavored syrups and creamy condensed milk.
What does this have to do with knitting? Well, If you were inspired to create a yarn with all the lightness and sweet, refreshing color of a beloved confection, you'd arrive at Kakigori, an amazing new yarn from Noro.
Kakigori is a soft, drapey, DK weight blend of cotton, silk, viscose and polyamide available in bright shades chock full of happy, tweedy flecks that pop and shine, giving way to the subtlest of stripes! It comes in giant 660 yard balls, meaning you'll only need one or two balls to complete your lightweight summer sweaters and accessories!
We designed the Garter Triangle Shawl to let the color shine through. This clean, gentle triangle uses just 1 ball of Kakigori, The finished dimensions are a generous 80" wide 26" deep - plenty to wrap up in!
To knit the Garter Triangle Shawl you'll need:
- 1 skein of Kakigori (shown here in Hakodate)
- 32-inch US 8 circular needles

MATERIALS
1 skein of Kakigori
NEEDLES
40-inch US 8 circular needle
GAUGE
4.5 sts = 1 inch in garter stitch
ABBREVIATIONS
k knit
kfb knit front and back
p purl
PATTERN
Cast on 5 sts.
Set-up row 1: Knit.
Row 1: K1, kfb, k to last 2 sts, kfb, k1.
Row 2: P1, kfb, k to last 2 sts, kfb, p1.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until you have knit through the skein, leaving several yards to bind off.
Bind off, weave in ends and lightly block.
